Claude vs Gemini vs ChatGPT for Product Designers: Which Should You Use?

There is no single winner here, and picking one so you can stop thinking about it is the wrong instinct.

All three are capable. They are good at different things. Treat them as specialists on a team rather than as one oracle you have to be loyal to.

Claude

My default for anything that is really a language and judgment problem. Rewriting copy while holding a consistent voice, critiquing a flow against heuristics, reading a long research transcript, reasoning carefully through a tradeoff where the answer is not obvious.

What it does well is structured thinking over long context, and it will disagree with you, which is worth more than it sounds.

Gemini

Strongest on multimodal work. Hand it a screenshot or a mockup and it will reason about hierarchy, contrast and accessibility.

If the task starts with an image rather than with text, start here. Describing your own screen in words to a different tool wastes the advantage.

ChatGPT

The generalist. Good at brainstorming, structured drafting and quick iteration, with the widest set of integrations around it.

It is the reasonable first stop when you are not sure which tool the task belongs to.

How I actually combine them

Gemini to analyse a screen. Claude to refine the copy and pressure test the logic. ChatGPT to brainstorm when I am stuck and want volume.

The skill is not loyalty to a tool. It is knowing which one to pick up, and treating everything that comes out as a draft you improve with your own taste.

Questions I get asked

Which is best for UX writing? Claude usually produces the most natural, on voice copy. All three are usable if you give them proper context and ask for options.

Which for screenshots? Gemini, on multimodal strength.

Do I need to pay for all three? No. Start with one. Add a second only when you hit a task it is visibly bad at.
